In the spirit of last week’s Summer Solstice I offer this story page of drawings as a vision of Will Shakespeare’s experience at Midsummer 1593. I believe that summer was one of momentous consequence for the playwright. The discovery of the theme of ‘Saint Barbara’ as I developed the ‘holy orders’ post has intrigued me ever since. Her guidance appears to have been pivotal in the development of Shakespeare’s art, but the experience of it would have been no more extraordinary to him than the experiences of Teresa of Avila and other Renaissance mystics.
